  1. Hi….We met at Elizabethtown in 2012…LOL, finally have a chance to hunt you down. Do you have kits made up for the smoking caps?? I was wondering if you ever got a chance to do that. Hope so…I’d be very interested. Or, if you know where I can get a pattern to make one for our guys up here in Massachusetts.

    Thanks so much.

    • Hi Carolyn,
Unfortunately the smoking caps would be very difficult to kit. Each hat is individually worked based on the number of stitches in the motif/design and to custom fit the wearer, which involves re-calculations and swatching with different hook and yarn sizes. If you wish to try your hand, The original crochet pattern can be found in “The Ladies’ self instructor in millinery and mantua making”(1853) page 198. Once you read the original pattern and see how vague the instructions are, you will understand why it would be difficult to kit the hats. Best of luck.
If you are interested, I do sell patterns for the knitted sleeping (stocking) hats.

  2. On a recent trip I purchased your The “Bunky” Newsboy Cap pattern. When you get to row 3 You do the repeat of row 1, but you have one extra stitch left right before the marker. Do you just knit these extra stitches at the end of a round and start the pattern repeat of *K9, P1* right after the marker or do you start the repeat with these extra stitches? I hope this makes sense.

    • Hi Diana,
Thank you for your pattern purchase and your inquiry. I have sent you a private email message to answer your question.

  3. Hi Cathy. We met at the retreat at Camp Swatara in Oct. 2014. I am knitting the Galaxy and have 2 questions. On line 11 (when we start adding beads) we SSK and then follow the rest of the pattern for that row. On line 12 we SSK and knit 37 but we lost a stitch on line 11 with the SSK so we don’t have that many stitches left…Please understand that I barely qualify as an intermediate knitter and am easily confused by patterns. The first time I tried these two rows I was 8 stitches short on row 12. The second question concerns blocking…do I just fold it in half and pin the two sides together? Thanks for your help!!

  4. I am working on the Sevillanas Shawl getting ready to start the Chevron lace section. The chevron chart has a red box in the middle of the chart around the 7-14 stitches. Is this section to be repeated til getting to the last 7 stitches of each row?
    Thanks for the help.

    • Hi Sharon,
You are correct, the red box will be repeated across the row. If you are making the small size you will work the 8 stitches 17 times, medium size would be 23 times and the large size would be 27 times.
      Happy Knitting,
      Cathy

      • Thank you so much for the quick reply!! I am to that point in the pattern and did not want to have to put it on hold. 😉 😉 I really appreciate your help.
        Have a great day!
